The Challenge
As the definitive "people’s car" of Malaysia, the Proton Saga has been a national icon for over four decades, yet it faced a growing perception gap among a new generation of tech-savvy drivers. While the model was synonymous with reliability and heritage, the brand needed to prove that the latest iteration was more than just a budget-friendly sedan. The objective was to launch the new Saga as an "intelligent proposition," featuring local engineering and modern technology that could compete in a crowded market. Proton aimed to leverage the patriotic sentiment of the Merdeka season to reintroduce the car as a symbol of Malaysian progress. The core challenge was to celebrate the vehicle's 1985 roots while convincingly showcasing its evolution into a sophisticated, performance-oriented hatchback for 2026.
Strategy
Through a series of seamless VFX transitions, Sofian (@sofyank96) showcased the physical transformation of a classic first-generation Saga into the all-new model, making the car’s evolution feel like a feat of digital magic. The narrative prioritised the "Intelligence That Thrills" concept, using visual effects to highlight the car's i-GT 1.5L engine and the dual 16-inch integrated screens in a way that felt intuitive rather than technical. By ending the sequence with a patriotic musical tribute, the content successfully linked the car’s technological upgrades to a sense of national pride. This creator-led approach allowed Proton to speak directly to a younger audience, transforming a traditional automotive launch into a viral cultural moment that celebrated both Malaysian heritage and future-ready technology.
